How the ACGR Academy Pathway Works

Flowchart showing the Michigan Futbol Academy (MFA) logo at the top, with the ACGR Academy logo in Grand Rapids beneath it. From there, three dotted lines lead to the logos of Norton Shores Coast, Grand Rapids, and Holland Shore, indicating the academy's branches.

AC Grand Rapids Academy (ACGR) brings together multiple regional clubs within the Michigan Futbol Academy (MFA) network under one shared development model, giving players the opportunity to grow at the right level for them.

Players begin and develop within their local clubs:

  • Coast (Norton Shores)

  • Grand Rapids

  • Shore (Holland)

Each location offers competitive teams across a range of levels, including National One League and other regional platforms, based on the ability of each team.

  • Develop locally → Advance when ready

As players grow, there is a clear pathway for those who are ready for the highest level of competition within our network.

    • Top players from all locations have the opportunity to advance to ACGR Academy (Grand Rapids)

    • The Academy is home to our highest-level teams, including MLS NEXT (boys) and Girls Academy (GA) platforms

    • These top Academy teams are centrally based in Grand Rapids to provide the best training environment and competition level

  • Beginning around U13, players who demonstrate the ability, commitment, and ambition to compete at the highest level may be invited to attend Academy ID Sessions in Grand Rapids.

These sessions are the primary pathway into:

    • MLS NEXT teams (boys)

    • Girls Academy teams (girls)

In rare cases, exceptional players may be identified earlier and approached about transitioning to Grand Rapids ahead of the typical U13 timeline. These decisions are made carefully and only with the approval of the club’s leadership team.

    • Players can continue to develop and compete at a high level within their local club

    • Movement to Grand Rapids is based on readiness, not required for all players

    • Families will have clear communication and opportunities to explore the Academy pathway if it becomes the right fit

  • This structure allows us to:

    • Provide strong teams at every location

    • Create meaningful opportunities for top players

    • Keep development pathways clear, transparent, and player-centered
