The Why Behind the Design: A Look at the MSA Lakeshore Expansion

More space. More opportunities. More ways to play.

The expansion of MSA Lakeshore represents an exciting step forward for youth sports in the Holland community. With more than 54,000 square feet of new space and a campus that has grown from 3 acres to 10, we've created new opportunities for athletes, teams, and families throughout the Lakeshore area.

But this project was about more than simply building a bigger facility.

From the dimensions of our soccer fields to the versatility of our new courts, every decision was made with a purpose: to create spaces that support athlete development, accommodate multiple sports, and provide a better overall experience for our community.

An Indoor Soccer Field Designed for Development

One of the most intentional decisions in the expansion was the design of our new indoor turf field.

Rather than installing boards around the playing surface, we chose an unboarded field that encourages players to develop skills that translate to the outdoor game.

Without boards, athletes must focus on their first touch, passing accuracy, movement, and positioning. The field also features the full width of a regulation outdoor soccer field and a permanently lined, full-size penalty area, creating opportunities for more realistic training scenarios.

Its flexible layout accommodates different styles of soccer training and competition, while additional markings allow for lacrosse and football activities.

We also incorporated a dedicated futsal court, providing a complementary environment where players can develop quick decision-making, close ball control, and creativity.

More Reliable Outdoor Playing Space

West Michigan weather can make outdoor sports unpredictable.

Our new synthetic turf field was designed to provide a more reliable training and competition space throughout the spring and fall seasons, helping reduce disruptions caused by wet and muddy field conditions.

The field accommodates 11v11 youth soccer, with additional markings for 9v9, 7v7, and 4v4 play. Lacrosse and football markings create even more opportunities for teams and organizations to utilize the space.

More Courts. More Possibilities.

The original Lakeshore building was designed with the possibility of future expansion in mind. Today, that vision has become a reality.

Our expanded court space creates additional opportunities for volleyball, basketball, futsal, and pickleball.

From competitive team practices to youth skill development, these spaces were designed to accommodate athletes of different ages, abilities, and interests.

Designed with Purpose

Every field, court, and playing surface reflects our commitment to providing the best experience in youth sports.

We're proud of the opportunities these new spaces will create for MSA programs, and we're equally excited about their potential to serve schools, clubs, teams, and organizations throughout the community.

We extend a special thank you to Spark43 Architects and GDK Construction for their partnership in bringing this vision to life.
